Each of the eleven paragraphs is cluing two things: it is addressed to a specific person or character, and it gives instructions to get a word or phrase by following strange instructions. After identifying a few characters, we notice that they are all Disney characters, which helps us to identify the rest (quite possibly with the help of the Disney Wiki):

Reading the first letters of the characters in the given order tells us to CIRCLE EPCOT. Epcot is a theme park at Disney World consisting of two areas: Future World, and the World Showcase. The World Showcase consists of eleven pavilions corresponding to eleven countries of the world, in a circle around a lagoon. Each of the eleven characters we identified above is associated with one of the eleven countries. We can follow their instructions in their corresponding pavilions of Epcot as follows:

Your friend just turned into a donkey! Run away, or you’ll be next! See the full list of topiaries here (click “Read More” under the heading “Topiary Magic Awaits”).Lady and the Tramp was based on Happy Dan, The Whistling Dog by Ward Greene, which Walt Disney read in Cosmopolitan Magazine.

The main attraction of the France pavilion is Impressions de France, an 18-minute film which tours much of the country. Looking at the list of scenes for the film, we see that the scene being referenced is scene 2, where you glide through the Marais Poitevin, a swamp area. Author’s Notes

One of my favorite types of puzzles in on-site puzzle hunts is “runarounds”, where you are typically given instructions to run through a place of interest, like a public building or park, and gather information as you go. Such a puzzle is hard to make for an online hunt, since teams aren’t all in the same physical location, but this puzzle is intended to be a runaround you can do entirely online. In fact, an earlier version of the puzzle only had instructions for going around the countries of Epcot, without the Disney character clues, and had the solver match up instructions to countries just by seeing which instructions could reasonably be followed in each country. I think the Disney character identification adds a fun first step and makes the second step a bit easier. I suspect many teams will make the connection to Epcot and solve the puzzle without noticing the “CIRCLE EPCOT” clue, though.

I would have liked to use characters who are less obscure than, for instance, Cassandra and Okuni, but there aren’t very many Disney characters to choose from who come from some of the countries.

If you enjoyed this puzzle, and ever find yourself in Epcot, make sure to try out Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure, a real Epcot runaround-style puzzle which this puzzle was inspired by.
